Cold plasma in foot care & cosmetics

Cold plasma in foot care & cosmetics

Skin care with physical deep action

Cold plasma also opens up new perspectives beyond classic antimicrobial issues. In foot care and cosmetics, the focus is not on destroying microorganisms, but on supporting physiological skin functions.

Reactive species as signal transmitters

In controlled doses, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species act as biological signalling substances. They promote blood circulation, cell migration, collagen synthesis and inflammation-modulating processes. The skin responds with increased activity of its protective and regenerative mechanisms.

Free electrons and electrophysiological stability

Free electrons from the plasma stream perform an additional, often underestimated function. They not only have an antioxidant effect, but also influence the electrophysiological balance of the skin cells.

The membrane potential of a cell is crucial for central control processes: metabolism, nutrient uptake, cell communication and regeneration. Under stress – for example, during inflammatory processes, barrier problems or oxidative stress – this balance is disrupted. Free electrons support the stabilisation of this potential, thereby creating favourable conditions for soothing and regenerative effects.

Cosmetic and skin care applications

Cold plasma can be used to support:

  • blemished skin and acne
  • sensitive, reddened or stressed skin
  • dry, cracked skin
  • regenerative skincare concepts
  • anti-ageing and glow treatments

Cold plasma does not replace skin care – rather, it creates an optimal starting point in which care products can be more effective.

Example 1: blemished skin

Bild1_Beispiel 1: unreine Haut

For blemished skin and acne, cold plasma treatment primarily aims to reduce inflammation and stabilise the skin flora. The oxygen and nitrogen species formed in the plasma have a germ-reducing effect on the skin surface without causing thermal damage to the tissue. At the same time, they stimulate blood circulation and regeneration processes in the epithelium. This allows redness, pustules and swelling to gradually subside, while the complexion as a whole calms down and refines – an ideal complement to a consistent, non-comedogenic skincare routine.

Example 2: Neurodermatitis

Bild2_Beispiel 2: Neurodermitis

The patient shown is 60 years old, non-diabetic and has suffered from severe neurodermatitis on her legs for around 25 years. At the start of treatment (left image), the skin was severely reddened, scaly and partially scratched. Repeated cold plasma treatments (3 applications in 4 days) significantly reduced inflammation, alleviated itching and gradually stabilised the skin's barrier function. The patient reports that she now wears skirts again – a clear improvement in her quality of life and self-confidence in everyday life.
